Syfy’s Van Helsing still has seven episodes left to air of it’s first season but that hasn’t stopped them from renewing it for a second one and like the first season, the second will have 13 episodes.

Van Helsing is set in the near future, where vampires have risen and taken control.  Vanessa Van Helsing is humanity’s last hope, as her unique blood composition gives her the ability to turn vampires human. With this secret weapon, Vanessa becomes a prime target for the vampires. Van Helsing comes from the producers of Fargo and Hell on Wheels. Acclaimed director/playwright Neil LaBute serves as showrunner.

Production on the 13 episode second season is expected to begin in January 2017. As reported by Deadline

“We have a wonderful and terrifying road ahead planned for Vanessa, her allies and her enemies,” said Van Helsing writer/showrunner Neil LaBute. “I think this is a world and a story that can be sustained for many years and I am inspired to do so thanks to Syfy’s obvious trust and commitment in the storytellers, cast and crew.”

Van Helsing airs Friday 10/9c on Syfy
